You probably never knew that a number of cars have been and still are, being made in Ireland – a country not particularly noted for its’ car manufacturing!!!!
However, the iconic DeLorean, was actually manufactured in Ireland – in Belfast, to be exact. Alas, owing to the vissisitudes of the British Government of the time, a number of sudden strikes amongst the workforce and and unwillingness to properly fund the project, the demise of this fascinating car came to an abrupt end. Alas too, for this marque and it’s designer, the “Back to the Future” films came out just that bit too late to save this unique car. With it’s all steel body (that marked every time it was touched) it’s gull-wing doors – totally impractical for any but racing cars and its overall poor assembly, it was doomed…….There has been talk of resurrecting the DeLorean as an electric car, sometime in 2022, and although I have seen pictures of an extremely glamourous car, it does not seem likely, at this point.
